Interaction of elevation and climate change on fire weather risk

چکیده
Most wildfire studies are regional to global in scale; however, many of the values interest and weather local phenomena that may give rise large spatial variability risk. We assessed interaction elevation climate on fire for Penticton Creek watershed southwestern Canada historic weather, five change scenarios. Daily temperature precipitation records spanning 100 years were generated using LARS-WG5 generator used calculate indices Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System. season length, restricted activity season, severity all projected increase by 2050s some scenarios further 2080s. Low mid-elevations had substantially worsening risks, whereas at highest elevations, risks mitigated continuation snowpack. Increasing temperatures lengthened while decreasing (increasing) exacerbated (ameliorated) intensity These results indicate more variable effects than literature. Over 24 million km 2 globally forestland have a similar or higher degree slope, highlighting need detailed topographic integration meet needs planners.

Crime, Weather, and Climate Change
This paper estimates the impact of climate change on the prevalence of criminal activity in the United States. The analysis is based on a panel of monthly crime, temperature, and precipitation data for 2,972 U.S. counties over the 50-year period from 1960 to 2009. I identify the effect of weather on monthly crime by using a semi-parametric bin estimator and controlling for county-by-month and c...
متن کاملThe Effects of Weather and Climate Change on Dengue
BACKGROUND There is much uncertainty about the future impact of climate change on vector-borne diseases. Such uncertainty reflects the difficulties in modelling the complex interactions between disease, climatic and socioeconomic determinants. We used a comprehensive panel dataset from Mexico covering 23 years of province-specific dengue reports across nine climatic regions to estimate the impa...
متن کاملWeather, Traffic Accidents, and Climate Change
We exploit random daily variation in weather to document the relationship of temperature, rainfall, and snowfall with traffic accidents and travel demand. Using information on 46.5 million accidents from the State Data System of police reported accidents for 20 states and travel demand for 207,455 households included in the National Household Transportation Survey, we find unanticipated effects...
متن کاملCosmic rays and space weather: effects on global climate change
We consider possible effects of cosmic rays and some other space factors on the Earth’s climate change. It is well known that the system of internal and external factors formatting the climate is very unstable; decreasing planetary temperature leads to an increase of snow surface, and decrease of the total solar energy input into the system decreases the planetary temperature even more, etc. Fr...
